History of Music Plus

Music Plus has been in Waterloo Region since 1980, opening first as a home-based business on Wellington Street, moving to a Weber Street storefront and then expanding into a converted factory on Ahrens Street.

Our current retail space is in the Victoria Park Heritage District of the City of Kitchener. Located at 5 Michael Street, we are in a glorious century old building that once housed shoe manufacturers. The main level of the building is a 5000 square foot room, with wonderful natural light and Douglas fir beam construction. Music for all instruments, voices, ensembles and classroom needs is displayed here.

  • Elementary school teachers can find classroom resources to meet curriculum needs, including theory, song collections and school musicals.
  • Orff, Kodaly and Suzuki materials are stocked.
  • Secondary school teachers browse the band method books, band collections, sight-singing materials, and song collections for all solo voices/instruments and ensembles.
  • We stock piano music, organ music, harpsichord music, duets for piano and for organ, piano/organ duets and music for 2 pianos - 4 hands!
  • Choral octavos and major choral works are found in our choral room along with tables, chairs, a keyboard and our computer database to use in preparing for programs both sacred and secular, unison to double choir! We distribute the Kelman Hall Publishing catalogue, including recent additions from the former McGroarty Music Publishing Company.
  • Handbell titles for solo to 6 octave ringing are located on shelves with a browsing tabletop. Mallets, gloves, polish, binders and are also sold here.
  • Band instruments from Conn-Selmer, Leblanc, and Ludwig lines are in stock for both the beginner and pro player. Accessories for all instruments are also carried, from cleaning cloths to mallets to reeds!
  • Concert band charts (gr. 1-5) are located in our instrumental department, as well as jazz ensemble charts for all levels. Both string orchestra, full orchestra and chamber music titles may be browsed in this spacious section.
  • Musical gifts and gift cards, metronomes and tuners can be obtained for that special teacher or student!
  • We have Free Parking and lots of it!
  • Our staff of musicians is knowledgeable and friendly.
